TerraRoc offers a comprehensive range of geotechnical drilling products, each designed to meet the specific demands of various drilling applications including Casing Advancement Systems such as the Symmetrix and Elemex systems which are engineered for efficient and secure casing installations in challenging ground conditions; Down-the-Hole (DTH) Hammers such as the Terranox series which is optimised for low-pressure operations, enhancing drilling performance and reducing downtime; and Core Drilling Equipment such as the Terracore product line which encompasses a complete set of in-the-hole tools, including core barrels, drill rods, and casings, suitable for various formations and depths. Utility Pole Drilling, including the PPD 120, is a truck-mounted drilling system specifically designed for efficiently drilling sockets through solid rock for utility poles. By offering these specialised products, TerraRoc addresses the diverse needs of the drilling industry, ensuring precision, efficiency, and reliability across various applications.
In December 2023, Debe Flow Group acquired TerraRoc, expanding its UK operations and aligning TerraRoc with Debe’s expertise in water supply, geo-energy, and drilling technologies.
Established in 1956, Debe Flow Group is a Swedish manufacturer present in many of the same industry sectors as TerraRoc. Over the decades, the company has positioned itself as a market leader in Sweden and across Europe, focusing on product development and innovation to ensure the delivery of high-quality, environmentally conscious solutions. This acquisition shows direct intention to push innovation to the maximum.
Mario Andrade, CEO of TerraRoc, said: “We are delighted to share that TerraRoc – the trusted global leader in geotechnical drilling solutions – has entered a new era. We have been acquired by Debe Infra Group, a move that promises to enhance our capabilities and offer you even more exceptional service.”
This strategic acquisition strengthens TerraRoc’s ability to provide high-quality drilling consumables while benefiting from Debe’s extensive resources and expertise.
SKILLS TO LEAD
In February 2024, Mikko Peltomäki was appointed Managing Director of TerraRoc Suomi Oy – the company’s Finnish operation – succeeding Jarkko Saastamoinen. With over 20 years of experience in production and project management, Peltomäki is set to oversee the relocation of the Tampere factory.
“I have worked in supervisory and expert positions in production and project organisations, both as part of an individual production site and as a business area. I am quick to learn new things, and I appreciate teamwork,” he said as he prepared to show clients and prospective customers around the company’s new showroom north of Helsinki.
Importantly for Peltomäki, new products are being launched and TerraRoc sees Europe as its home market. There is a drive for safe and efficient products as geotechnical drilling advances quickly. The industry plays a critical role in Europe’s infrastructure, energy, and construction sectors, providing essential data for foundation stability, soil and rock analysis, and underground resource exploration. With the continent facing increasing demands for renewable energy projects, urban expansion, and resilient infrastructure, advanced drilling technologies—such as TerraRoc’s Symmetrix casing advancement systems and Terracore core drilling tools—are essential for ensuring safe and efficient project execution. The rise of offshore wind farms, tunnelling for high-speed rail networks, and geothermal energy projects has further elevated the need for precision drilling solutions. As European countries push for sustainable development and climate-resilient infrastructure, the geotechnical drilling industry is at the forefront of enabling safer, more efficient, and environmentally conscious construction and energy projects.
In July 2023, TerraRoc launched the S Geobor Wireline HPD (High Pressure Dilatometer) System, developed in collaboration with SOCOTEC UK and Cambridge Insitu.
This groundbreaking system reduces manual handling and deployment time, significantly improving project efficiency.
“This breakthrough is more than just a technological innovation. It’s a game-changer that will transform the way our customers approach core drilling projects. The S Geobor Wireline HPD System not only enhances operational efficiency but also delivers comprehensive, high-resolution data that our clients can trust,” said Deyvi Akkris, Business Line Manager for Europe and LATAM.
The system provides real-time, high-resolution data on rock formation properties, setting a new benchmark in geotechnical engineering.
AHEAD OF THE CURVE
In 2022, research and information consultancy Rystad Energy produced a report stating that the geothermal heating market would grow by 58%, attracting investment of around $7.4 billion.
The geotechnical drilling industry is evolving rapidly due to advancements in technology, sustainability initiatives, and infrastructure demand. Some of the most significant industry trends in 2025 include AI-powered drilling systems that improve precision and efficiency; a shift towards eco-friendly drilling solutions to minimise environmental impact; increased demand for renewable energy-related drilling, such as geothermal exploration; and infrastructure designed for climate resilience, requiring stronger and more adaptable foundation solutions.
TerraRoc is well-positioned to capitalise on these trends. The company’s commitment to research and development, combined with its recent product innovations, ensures it remains at the forefront of industry advancements. By focusing on efficiency, safety, and sustainability, TerraRoc continues to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the geotechnical sector.
